About Harrison Dock
Our History
In 1978, Karl Kotter and his son Rick Kotter established Kotter Dock to provide a cost-effective way for businesses to unload and transport materials in our area. The Kotters saw a demand early on for a barge handling terminal in Metropolis, IL with its strategic location being on the Ohio River. In 1984, Bill Harrison and his son Rodger Harrison created a wholesale bulk fertilizer company called Waterway Ag, Inc. The Kotters partnered with the startup by leasing them storage and unloading their fertilizer. A few short years later Waterway Ag became Kotter Dock’s largest customer.
After four decades of the dock being owned and operated by the Kotters, the dock came under new ownership in December, 2021 when Rodger Harrison and his son Blake purchased the terminal. With this change, the dock was renamed to Harrison Dock and is now operated by Waterway Ag. The Kotters and the Harrisons are both excited to see the dock continue to operate as an independent family run business. Rodger and Blake intend to continue building on the foundation of providing high quality dock services that was established by the Kotters.
